Mayor Dillon has appointed the following residents to the Economic Development Commission: Nancy Carson, Lynn Dempsey, Kip Galloway, Beth Gilbert, Sharon Kennedy, Mark Koening, Jim Spears, Mike Swearingen, and Mark Wrhel. Beth Gilbert has agreed to be the chair of the commission.
The city's intent is to create an effective and aggressive economic development team to assist with the planning, development, and implementation of an economic and community development program for West Peoria.
The purpose of the West Peoria Economic Development Commission is to sustain, enhance, and diversify the community's economy while maintaining a focus on the city's Comprehensive Plan. The ongoing goals of this commission will be to:
- retain existing businesses
- facilitate the development of new commercial investment
- encourage neighborhood revitalization
- improve public infrastructure
This commission will include the City Administrator, the Economic Development Coordinator, City Council Representatives, and key community and business leaders. The commission will work with our state and federal representatives and the Economic Development Council for Central Illinois to take advantage of all programs and resources available to the city.
The Economic Development Commission will provide the following:
- guidance and advice to business, local governmental, and community groups regarding current and developing economic and community development activities
- coordination of local, state, and federal resources to existing and prospective businesses
- new business prospects with building and site information and assistance in securing necessary resources for economic development.
