Robert C. Strassburger

Robert C. Strassburger of 2222 W. Sherman served in World War II with the 36th Infantry, Division 5th Army in Africa and Italy from 1943 until 1946 when he was discharged. 

In December 12, 1948 Mr. Strassburger was called by reserve to report for the Korean Conflict.  He was in Korea from September 19, 1950 until September 19, 1951.   

Mr. Strassburger was picked out of line in Japan to stay in Yokohama for six months and was chosen to be in a 10th Army Show Unit.  The name of the show was “Take Ten”.  Each of the eighteen actors not only acted, they also had an additional job to do.  Being a woodmaker, Mr. Strassburger’s additional job was stage manager.  He had five Japanese woodworkers to help make the stage scenery and the equipment crates.  They also had their own vehicles.  The Show Unit performed their opening show in Tokyo.  Mr. Strassburger had his picture on the front page of Stars and Stripes.  They then took their show on a 1500 mile train trip to every U.S. base in Japan.  From Osaka, the Show Unit went on to Korea, where they entertained at all different camps - Marines, British, Greek, Puerto Rico, Air Force Bases, and much more.  The Show Unit members received two Battle Stars for being close to the front lines.
