If there were a Mr. West Peoria, that honor would very likely go to Bob DeSutter.

His political leadership role for the last fifteen years has been as a member of the West Peoria Township Board, serving as a trustee from 1995 to 2001 and as the Township Supervisor from 2001 to the present.
Also, DeSutter is currently serving as the treasurer of the Peoria County Officials Association.
However, DeSutter is not the type of leader who is content to serve on committees making decisions. He is more the type of leader who puts hands and feet to those decisions-the type who gets things done.
For instance, DeSutter is not just "on" the West Peoria Residents' Beautification Committee; passers-by at various spots in the city can often see Bob with shovel in hand, doing the hard labor that helps make West Peoria beautiful.
DeSutter is never just standing around at the West Peoria Jamboree's Scout Carnival and on West Peoria Cleanup Day. He is doing the work that makes each event a success.
Probably the most effective use of his time has been spent working with young people. Having been involved in Scouting for the last 29 years, DeSutter has been the Assistant Cub Master, Cub Master, and currently is the Committee Chairman of Pack 11 Cub Scouts.
He once held the position of Assistant Scout Master and is currently the Scout Master of Troop 11 Boy Scouts.
As further proof of his desire to help mold the lives of young people, DeSutter helped coach the West Peoria Little League and Peoria Junior Soccer Association.
Before his service to West Peoria began, DeSutter started out his adult life by first serving his country in the United States Army for three years (1966-1969), serving one year in Viet Nam.
When Bob married Sandy thirty-eight years ago, they moved to West Peoria, where they raised two sons, Mark and Brian. Both sons followed Bob's footsteps as graduates of Manual High School. When his sons were at Manual, DeSutter was president of the Manual Booster Club.
Mark DeSutter and his wife Michelle live in Peoria with their son Alex. Brian DeSutter and his wife Julie live in Washington, Illinois, with their children Issac and Eve. Whenever Bob DeSutter and his wife Sandy are not serving West Peoria, they are undoubtedly spending time with these three grandchildren. In Bob's other spare moments, he enjoys fishing and hunting.
DeSutter worked for Caterpillar at the Morton plant for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He worked with and for his co-workers for many years as a union steward for Local 974.
A lifelong member of Peoria's St. Boniface/St. Ann's Catholic Church, DeSutter literally carries out a "leadership" role on most Sundays by ushering parishioners to their seats. Also, he is a member of the Knights of Columbus. As a member of St. Jude, DeSutter has volunteered many hours of his time in service to that organization.
In 1990, DeSutter, most deservedly, was named the Grand Marshal to lead that year's West Peoria Fourth of July parade. That honor was in no way a culmination of his service to West Peoria. Whenever there is anything going on in West Peoria, Bob DeSutter will be there-almost always with his wife Sandy.
