Like so many West Peorians, the Beautification Committee is ready for the colors of spring and warmth of the air. After a few months off, the committee met on March 8 to plan and go over the choice of plants for the beautification of the public areas in West Peoria.
The areas of responsibility are as follows: the welcome wall at Western and Main, the welcome signs at Manor Parkway/Sterling and the top of Sterling and Swords Hills, and the corners at Rohmann/Sterling.
Marilyn Anders has again agreed to take care of the area around the Swords Hill sign. However, the committee could use some extra hands throughout the summer for watering as needed at other locations.
The Beautification Committee would like to welcome its newest member, long-time West Peorian, Mimi Evans. All residents are welcome to help out in any way they can. If you are interested in flowers, dirt, watering, transplanting, bugs, exercise, and fun, enjoyable people, please contact Maggie Moore at (309)673-0535.
From February 2011 WP News "Hanging of the Greens"
On the last Monday in November, four WPRA Beautification Committee members, Maggie Moore, Bev Karstensen, and Bob and Sandy DeSutter, were out trying to beat the snowy forecast. Amidst blustery winds, they went about the "Hanging of the Greens". Happy Holiday signs and large red velvet bows were placed on the City of West Peoria Welcome Wall and on the front of city hall. The fresh garland, wreaths, and other holiday decor are funded by the WPRA. A special thank you goes to Maggie Moore and Bev Karstensen for the making of the bows.
With the holidays now over, the WPRA Beautification Committee will again be meeting to plan for spring. All residents are welcome to share ideas and comments with the committee.

From August 2010 WP News
West Peoria residents and local businesses have worked together to help the West Peoria Residents' Beautification Committee brighten up our city with the beautiful flowers growing at several locations.
At the corners of Rohmann and Sterling, there are flowers on both sides of the street-in front of Ace Hardware and across the street on the property owned by Mr. McDonald.
John Deal, owner of the John Deal Insurance Agency, enhanced the WPRA's efforts by planting pots of flowers in front of his business, providing the water for the plants on the corner, and donating money to the Beautification Committee.
An additional three large pots of flowers greet customers as they visit the three businesses in the row of buildings near Haddad's: Shelter Insurance, the Flynn Dance Studio, and the Charm Beauty Shop.
Most of the flowers were purchased at a discount from Best Buds for $140. Volunteers - including David Pittman, Teresa Smith-Pittman and her daughter Annelyse Smith - helped with the planting. West Peoria City Hall also has two pots of flowers outside their door.
