The West Peoria Lions Club provides Christmas baskets every year for those less fortunate and would appreciate receiving the names of any families who could benefit from this program. Please call 673-6207 by December 5.
The Lions Club also furnishes eye glasses and hearing aids to West Peoria residents and others in surrounding communities through their fundraising efforts.
Now the Lions Club needs new members to help continue these humanitarian services to this community. Newcomers are cordially invited to come to a meeting at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at the United Disciples Christian Church. Call Carolyn McCarter at 673-6207 for more information. Why not join a win-win organization for a life-enriching experience and an opportunity to improve the lives of young people and of the hearing and visually impaired.
From October 2008 WPRA News
The West Peoria Lions Club’s members and friends will be at Haddad’s Market and South Side Bank on October 17 and 18, soliciting donations for Candy Day, a major fund-raising program. Anyone who wishes to help with this event, please call Carolyn or Jim McCarter 673-6207.
All the proceeds from this statewide Candy Day will be used for humanitarian services. Just a few of these Lions Club endeavors include giving hearing aids to the hearing impaired or eye glasses to the visually impaired as well as sending children with vision or hearing impairments to Camp Lions Youth Camp.
More extensive financial help goes toward services such as conducting eye research and providing assistance to the blind through the Lions Club Leader Dog Program.
The West Peoria Lions Club is a part of an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world—with the primary goals of making the world brighter for the visually impaired and louder for the hearing impaired.
Also, members of the West Peoria Lions Club work together to make a difference in their own community by building relationships with local community and business leaders. Anyone interested in working to accomplish these worthwhile goals is welcome to join this organization.
Non-members as well as members can help the Lions Club with its recycling program by donating tabs from aluminum, old keys, aluminum, and eye glasses. Also, please provide the names and addresses of any families who could benefit from Christmas baskets provided by the Lions Club by calling 673-6207.
The Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the United Disciples Church on Kellogg.

From February 2008 WPRA News
The West Peoria Lions Club's current fundraiser is the sale of soy candles, soaps, and air fresheners. The Lions Club wants to remind our readers to participate in its ongoing recycling programming by contributing used eye glasses, hearing aids, keys, ink cartridges, cell phones, and aluminum cans.
Local civic-minded men and women of all ages join the Lions Club-which is not just a social or fraternal club--because they are willing and anxious to give of their time, energy, and resources to the community and to create an atmosphere of thinking about the "other guy," who may have physical and financial needs. To that end, the Lions Club regularly provides assistance to the Peoria Area Blind People's Center.
Those interested in joining the Lions Club, in buying any of the fundraiser products, or in providing items for the recycling program should contact Linda at 673-6409 or Jim or Carolyn at 673-6207
