WELCOME!

Welcome to the West Peoria Residents' Association (WPRA) website.  We invite you to explore our website to learn about the WPRA, a community organization that began before West Peoria became a city. Our goals include helping to maintain a desirable residential district for West Peoria residents; providing a neutral forum for residents, organizations and governmental units in West Peoria; and providing communication via the West Peoria News and this website to all West Peorians. To learn more about the WPRA, contact David Pittman at 309-676-5237 or email dvdpttmn@aol.com

The WPRA membership meeting is the third Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the West Peoria City Hall. The Neighborhood Watch meeting precedes the WPRA meeting from 6:00-6:30 p.m.

July 4, 2009 - Fourth of July Parade

An invitation to all to attend West Peoria’s 40th annual Fourth of July Parade and Flag Raising Celebration is extended by the parade sponsors: the city of West Peoria, Boy Scout Troop #11 and Cub Scout Pack #11, and the West Peoria Lions Club.

The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on July 4 and will follow a completely new parade route this year.  Line-up begins at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Rohmann and Sterling, where a parade information center will be located. The parade will travel down Sterling to Moss, across to Waverly, up to Rohmann, continuing onto Sterling again, and will conclude at the Franciscan Recreation Complex at the intersection of Sterling and Heading.  After the parade, everyone is invited to gather for the Flag Raising Ceremony at the community flagpole located at the park.  Click to see the map which is also  printed on page 12 of the June issue of the West Peoria News.

Trophies will be awarded for the Most Patriotic, Best of Show, Best Juvenile, and the Grand Marshal, and for a new category this year—Service Organizations.

All entries should be decorated in a patriotic theme.  The parade sponsors would be honored to have newcomers (individuals or organizations) march with those who will be joining us again this year in this tribute to our country.  As in previous years, the community will be treated to marching bands, classic cars, walking groups, dance troupes, groups on bicycles, and prestigious floats.

Any West Peoria Residents' Association members wishing to walk with the WPRA in the Parade should email vp1@westpeoriaresidents.org.

Once again we urge you—as a participant or an observer—to join us in West Peoria for our annual salute to and celebration of the birth of our country.    Please feel free to call Mark Wrhel at 472-4258 or e-mail at mwrhel@comcast.net with any questions.
